Silk scarf painting workshop
Silk scarf painting workshop
Saturday May 9, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
Registration is full.
Discover the beauty of silk painting in this hands-on workshop. Participants will be introduced to iron-set dyes and salt texturing techniques that create vibrant, flowing designs with rich organic colours. The process embraces movement, resulting in expressive, one-of-a-kind silk artworks.
You’ll learn how to properly prepare and stretch silk, apply flowing colour and use salt to create natural starburst and marbled effects. You’ll finish by heat-setting your finished silk scarf so you can take home (and wear!) a completed textile artwork. Along the way, you’ll build confidence in dye flow, colour blending and surface design – no prior experience required.
About the instructor: Chamila Belleth is a textile artist who enjoys botanical printing on fabric and dyeing with indigo and other natural pigments. Inspired by nature, from the unique and expressive shapes of leaves to the vibrant colours of flowers, she captures nature's beauty through her prints on organic silk fabrics.
