Still Life, Still Living, Clay Vessel Workshop

Still Life, Still Living, Clay Vessel Workshop with Hibah Mian, Curator of Dreamland

Saturday June 27, 1 to 4 p.m.

Inspired by the commissioned ceramic works by Tamirah Taylor as part of Dreamland’s ongoing series, this clay workshop invites participants to use air-dry clay to explore memory, identity, and place through the creation of their own hand-built vessel. Taking cues from the tradition of still life — reimagined through a contemporary, BIPOC lens — the workshop centers the quiet power of everyday domestic objects, like a fruit bowl on a kitchen table. Together, we’ll reflect on how ordinary things carry extraordinary meaning, and how our personal and collective stories live on through the things we hold, use, and remember.

About Dreamland:

Led by curator Hibah Mian and exhibited at the Bradley Museum (Summer 2024), Dreamland in an ongoing project that explores people’s passage from one space to another – posing the question, is it possible to exist in two places at one time? The project showcases the work of artists from a variety of communities to explore this theme, including reflections of trauma, transformation, and place making.
